JoJo is a 13 year old girl originally from Massachussettes. She now lives in New Jersey. You obviously have heard Leave(get out) by JoJo on KCLD.Well she made that song and plenty more. The board of a radio station that she was interviewed at made a site in her honor.www.JoJoonline.com.
Her mother, a church soloist and trained musical theater perfomer, would practice hymns and arias while JoJo listened and learned. She learned her mom's range of song and she listened to alot of music such as Whitney Houston and Etta James. When she was two years old she loved to sing nursery rhymes. She taught herself to do riffs on them and make them jazzy. It was at the early age that she then interpreted pop and blues tunes. She soon did her own unique and distintive style.
Eager to perform she searched for her first big break. She found an ad for the Bill Cosby show "Kids say the darnest things."Her passion and soul left the producers without a word to say except that she was in.When she was on the show Bill Cosby asked her to sing for the audience. She sang "Respect"by Aretha Franklin. She got a huge response from the audience and Bill Cosby.Soon after the show Oprah called, inviting JoJo onto her show.
All at once it all happened.Calls from talk show producers and music festival organizers began to pour in.JoJo accepted and did them all.She sand in places as diverse as a Boston Celtics basketball game and the Republican National Convention, but it was at McDonald's 2001 Gospelfest that she "brought down the house"with Whitney Houston's hit "I believe in you and me".She earned a standing ovation. She walked off stage and met with Whitney Houston's mother Cissy Houston. She said to JoJo,"You did a great job out ther."'Such a big endorsement is simply priceless to such a young and talented singer.
While on the tv show,America's Most Talented Kids,JoJo was noticed by a man who introduced her to Vincent Herbert. She was given two record contracts.
She stayed in New York and recorded music for her debut album with famed producers. Her album hits stores June 22nd. |
